How to Read a Supplement Facts Label

A clear guide to serving sizes, proprietary blends, other ingredients and what labels do not prove.

Research updated: October 16, 2026 Independent buyer information

A Supplement Facts label answers some important questions, but it is not a certificate that a product is effective for a particular condition.

Step 1: Identify the serving size

The serving size determines how all listed amounts should be interpreted. DigestiStart lists one capsule per serving and 30 servings per bottle.

Step 2: Understand proprietary blends

When a label gives one weight for a list of herbs, the amount applies to the entire blend. DigestiStart's 500 mg figure is not the dose of each one of its eleven botanicals.

Step 3: Look at inactive ingredients

Capsule materials and additives matter if you avoid animal-derived gelatin or have a particular sensitivity.

Step 4: Check evidence and compatibility

Regulatory language, brand claims and ingredient studies have different meanings. Ask about quality testing and your own medication interactions as needed.
